A well-groomed man includes a well-groomed beard at all times. Fully shaved or just trimmed? The OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 shaver from the Philips OneBlade series does both. Let's take a closer look at its features.

Package contents

A razor isn't the only thing you can expect when you unpack the box. The following accessories are included:

  • shaver OneBlade Pro QP6520/20,
  • comb attachment,
  • charging attachment,
  • power cord,
  • travel case.
You'll be surprised to find a charging stand in the package, which isn't a complete given with other models.

In the package you will be surprised by the charging stand, which is not a complete commonplace in other models. The Philips brand relies on maximum practicality and functionality, so in addition to the razor itself and the interchangeable attachment, it adds a useful charging stand where you can even just put the razor away. Although the packaging looks quite minimalistic, you won't be missing anything essential. The manufacturer hasn't even forgotten the handy travel case. This makes it the most accessorised model in the OneBlade range.

Features of the shaver

The OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 shaver is not just a regular razor, it is a multifunctional device that gives you a perfectly groomed face, whether you want a precisely smooth face or a casual stubble. It also acts as a trimmer.

OneBlade Technology

This specially designed technology is based on a high-performance blade that can execute up to two hundred movements in a single second. The design can be imagined as the moving blade is de facto "locked" in a fixed blade. This ensures a precise shave, but without irritating the skin. The machine features a double protection system, the sheath that houses the blade has a smooth surface and rounded tips.

Trimmer

The unique trimmer features a total of 14 length settings. Whether your requirement is a few millimeters of stubble or a manicured beard, it's no problem with the OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 shaver.

The length can be adjusted from 0.4 to 10 mm.

The many cut length settings will please just about anyone.

Optional blade

With the double-sided razor, you can follow the curves of your face and shave even the hardest to reach areas with the results you want. The blade is also designed to handle long-term stress, resist damage and shave at the same quality for months.

Manufacturer lists a lifespan of specifically four months, assuming an average shaving frequency of twice a week. So realistically, the blades may wear more depending on the type of beard.

So the blade life is not long at all, this unfortunately increases the cost of running the razor.

Quality of workmanship and ergonomics

Small size and light weight promise very easy handling, which is also supported by the ergonomic shape of the handle. The machine fits very well in the hand. The principle of attaching the attachment is very simple, yet everything holds securely in place. Not only shaving and trimming is easy, but also the necessary maintenance of the device. Changing the blade is a matter of moments.

No complaints can be made about the material processing of the machine. The modern design, which will not put the bathroom to shame, is the icing on the cake. The absence of a cord is also pleasing, the machine is rechargeable, so you will not be restricted by anything and can easily pack it for travel. Then you'll definitely take advantage of the travel lock function, which can prevent accidental start-up in your bag, for example. What could make it slightly uncomfortable to use is definitely the slightly higher noise level.

Power Method

The shaver uses a built-in battery for its operation. The manufacturer's stated values are 90 minutes of shaving per charge. The shaver will then charge to full in one hour. In practice, the declared values are realistic, Philips for this device delivers what it promises. In its category, when compared to other devices such as the Philips S5100/06, both the endurance and the time required for charging deserve to be highlighted as strengths of the QP6520/20.

Of the entire OneBlade series, then, this version of the machine is the best ever in terms of standby time and charging time.

How the other OneBlade shavers fare can be found in a detailed comparison of each model.

Compared to the base model Philips OneBlade QP2520/30, which takes 8 hours to charge and lasts 45 minutes in operation, the OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 manages a full 90 minutes of operation with just 1 hour of charging. You'll especially use it when you travel frequently or the power cord is simply in the way.

With the charging stand, the OneBlade Pro will always have a place.

Alternatively, look out for the flashing light indicating a full charge or, conversely, a state of near-depletion. A slight limitation is that the manufacturer warns against using the machine while it is charging, which has safety reasons. Thus, if you don't recharge in time, you'll simply have to wait a while to finish shaving.

How does the OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 shave?

It can handle longer beards and the shaving head is smaller. That makes it all the more comfortable to work with. If you have a very hard beard, you may feel weaker performance, but otherwise it doesn't pull. And beware, you have to put up with the mess too, the beard will fall around you, because it can't suck it up. If you're used to a razor, you'll first of all have to get used to a slightly different way of shaving and a specific tilt grip. But this shouldn't be a problem, and within a few uses you'll reliably get the right grip.

Another fairly important fact to consider before buying is that it shaves smoothly, but not as smoothly as a razor blade. However, there is a practical reason for this. Compared to a razor, you won't cut yourself, and the razor won't harm sensitive skin either. Even those with acne-prone skin can shave with it.

The result of shaving is not like with a razor. But that's not even the mission of the Philips OneBlade.
The shaving result is not razor-like. But neither is the mission of the Philips OneBlade.

You can shave dry or wet using foam or gel due to the fact that the razor is waterproof. If you suffer from the aforementioned tendency to skin irritation, you'll probably be more comfortable with the latter. For trimming, it's worth appreciating the variability of lengths and the high precision in adjustment that ensures an absolutely perfect result. The comb attachment has 14 settings compared to the basic OneBlade Pro QP2520/30.

Once you set the desired length, the extension locks at that value. So you don't have to worry about accidentally switching.

During operation, you have control over the area you are trimming or shaving. You can also manage any grooming relatively quickly, considering that you will save time further if you shave in the shower or bath, which is possible in this case thanks to the waterproof design. However, the attachment only uses one side of the blade. This is a bit of a shame, the concept of double-sided shaving that OneBlade otherwise offers suffers from this.

Cleaning and Maintenance

The device is waterproof, which also simplifies its maintenance. Simply rinse it under water, eliminating lengthy cleaning with a brush. Cleaning the attachment is slightly more complicated.

Just rinse the device after use.

Spare parts

It is important to note here the higher purchase price of replacement heads. Likewise, you will need to entrust the service department with the eventual replacement of the battery. Unfortunately, a replacement adjustable head or stand is not included in the range of torches. Keep an eye out for them, a replacement would probably be very hard to find.

Who is the Philips OneBlade Pro for?

This razor is best suited to anyone who is particular about their appearance and will benefit from both shaving and trimming. Are you looking for barber shop-like detailing? Then the OneBlade Pro is the obvious choice. Appreciated by men who need to be groomed at all times, travel frequently and don't want to carry a charger and cord. Without exaggeration, the OneBlade Pro QP6520/20 will become your everyday companion.

Although the price/performance ratio is favorable when purchased, you must expect higher costs later when shopping for replacement heads. So consider whether you will really take full advantage of its capabilities to make the expense worthwhile. The second target group for this Philips model is undoubtedly those who are uncomfortable with other razors because of skin irritation.

But then, by the nature of the device, you can't expect a completely close shave. So that's definitely a fact that shouldn't bother you. If you're after a perfectly smooth shave, you're better off looking for a conventional shaver, such as the Philips Series 9000 S9711/31.
