Philips has combined a shaver and a trimmer to create a sleek product it calls OneBlade. Rather than a product, it is an entire product line. The manufacturer offers different variants of the product for different customers. And it will please even those who are really demanding. Before we get to the actual description of each model, let's summarize what Philips OneBlade actually represents in the world of shavers or trimmers.
By combining a trimmer and a shaver, Philips offers the features of both. Perhaps we could also think of a razor in this vein. Especially because of the design of the razor and also because of how you use it when you shave.
If you use the device without any attachment, you can easily shave against the direction of beard growth. The shave is surprisingly smooth and there is no risk of irritation if you don't apply too much pressure. Yes, top model shavers like the Braun Series 9 9290cc or Philips Series 9000 S9711/31 shave better, but that's probably not surprising.
You can read how the OneBlade shaves in a review of a specific model in this article: Test and Review: Philips OneBlade QP2520/30. If we do not take into account the battery life, the shaving capabilities of each model are identical. The blades are the same for all OneBlade models, so you don't benefit from the different technology in the higher models.
Due to the size of the blade and the compact size of the device you can see exactly where you need to. By tilting the blade, you get maximum precision and trim your beard exactly as you need it. In this domain, OneBlade absolutely excels and few conventional shavers or trimmers can match it.
Beard shaping is handled about the same on all models. But if you're all about shaping, we'd recommend the models without the Pro label, and the reason is that their body is tapered just before the blade so you have a slightly better view of where you're moving the edges of the blade.
There is no need to elaborate on this topic, given the good shaving capabilities, just attach one of the supplied comb attachments or the adjustable comb attachment (OneBlade Pro models) and simply trim your beard.
Pro models offer adjustable comb attachments that allow you to select 12, reps. 14 different trim lengths. You can easily change the length with the wheel on the extension and don't have to worry about constantly changing extensions. Travel logistics are also much easier with these models.
OneBlade models offer a smooth, irritation-free shave (with optimal pressure). Due to their compact size, the machines excel in maximum precision when grooming and shaping the beard.
Thanks to comb attachments or the adjustable comb attachment (OneBlade Pro models), they can also easily trim the beard to the desired length. All the razors in this range have a swivel blade, are waterproof with non-slip features and have rounded blade edges to protect the skin from irritation as much as possible.
The replacement blades are the same for all OneBlade models and are marked QP230/50. The manufacturer declares a blade lifespan of 4 months when shaving 2 times a week. This figure may vary depending on how often you use the razor, whether you shave dry or wet. The hardness of your beard also plays a role. However, one blade should last you an average of 30 shaves.
The biggest advantage is definitely the price - this is the cheapest model in the OneBlade range. The advantage is also the comfortable working and overview when shaping the beard, which are due to the narrowing of the device body just above the blade (unlike the Pro models). Shaving capabilities are the same as the more advanced models. On the other hand, the biggest drawback is the charging time, which is 8 hours, with the battery lasting only 45 minutes after a full charge.
Compared to the OneBlade QP2520/30, this model offers one extra trimming comb (2 mm). The charging time is also more user-friendly - 4 hours of charging is required for a full charge, which is then enough for 60 minutes of operation. Again, the design of this model makes it more contourable than the Pro models, primarily due to the taper of the body of the device just above the blade (giving you a better view of where you are moving the edges of the device).
The Pro models have a sleek design that catches the eye compared to the traditional models. The biggest advantages are the comb attachments with 12 different length settings ranging from 0.5mm to 9mm, and the fast-charging battery that allows 60 minutes of battery life after just one hour of charging. A charging stand, a travel lock function and a digital LED display to indicate battery status are also a nice bonus.
The winner of the test was clearly the Philips OneBlade Pro QP6520/20, which offers the best price/performance ratio, thanks to its comb attachment, short charging time and great battery life.
Is the OneBlade technology alone enough of a benefit for you? Feel free to get the cheapest model. But if you care about ergonomics, charging time, battery life and other features, then you certainly shouldn't miss the other models in the line.
But at the core, all models are the same - they use the same blade technology. Beyond that, there are other specific ways in which the models do not differ from each other at all.
This model from the OneBlade series is a kind of "economy choice". Yes, you can get the most expensive model in the line for once as much, but in terms of absolute numbers, it's about a thousand crowns. The shaving capabilities of this model are the same as the other products in the range. In terms of beard shaping, you'll probably find it a little easier to work with than the Pro models. A huge drawback with this model is the length of charge, which is 8 hours. Battery life after that long is a below average 45 minutes. Another drawback is the Ni-MH battery type, which can suffer from memory effect. Also, don't expect any indication of charge or battery status with this model, it's only on the adapter.
Compared to the QP2520/30, this variant offers one extra trimming comb (2 mm). Due to its design, it is also slightly more suitable for beard shaping than the pro models. This model has also improved in terms of charging. It uses a Li-Ion battery (doesn't suffer from memory effect) that will give you 60 minutes of shaving, after 4 hours of charging. This is still a fairly below average charging time, but it is a significant improvement over the base model. In terms of indication, this model will alert you when the battery is fully charged, when the battery is fully discharged, and also when charging is in progress.
You'll know the Pro models at a glance. Compared to the sporty design of the classic models, the OneBlade Pro is sleeker, both in terms of colour and body shape. Apart from the design, the main difference of the QP6510/20 is its comb attachment, which allows you to adjust 12 different lengths from 0.5 mm to 9 mm. With the battery, we have again improved compared to previous models. This device allows fast charging, which means 60 minutes of battery operation after only one hour of charging. The machine will inform you at the charge level with a three-level LED display. Of course, it will inform you of the full charge, discharge and charging process.
Why compromise when you don't have to? The highest model in the entire series makes you better in many different areas compared to previous models. This model comes standard with a comb attachment with 14 lengths ranging from 0.4mm to 10mm. This offers you the most options and in complete comfort, without having to change the attachment every time you change length. As an accessory, you also get a charging stand. So your OneBlade will always have a place in your bathroom.
Those of you who are often on the move will be especially excited. The machine will last up to 90 minutes after just an hour of charging. This makes it a record holder among the cordless storjks tested so far. With that kind of endurance, you can easily achieve 15 shaving treatments without having to charge the shaver. This OneBlade also has a travel lock function, so your shaver won't run out of power on the go. And to make matters worse, in the package with the device, the manufacturer gives you a travel case. Indication is taken care of by digital LED display, which indicates both the battery or charging status, as well as the status of the travel lock itself. Given the low price difference between the basic model and the best one, we definitely recommend choosing this one, as it offers the best price/performance ratio.
